Taylor County does not regulate short-term rental parking in unincorporated areas. Texas counties lack zoning and off-street parking authority (Local Gov Code Ch. 232). Vehicles must stay off public road right-of-way per Transportation Code Β§545.302. Abilene applies its general off-street parking standards (Code Ch. 23, Land Development Code) inside city limits.
Texas counties have no authority to require off-street parking spaces, restrict on-street parking by ordinance, or set STR-specific parking quotas. Taylor County therefore imposes no parking minimum or guest-vehicle cap on rentals in unincorporated areas (Tuscola, Lawn, Buffalo Gap, Trent, View). State law applies: Tex. Transportation Code Β§545.302 prohibits parking on the main-traveled portion of a highway, blocking driveways, or parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. The Sheriff and TxDOT enforce right-of-way rules. Inside Abilene, the Land Development Code requires off-street parking for residential dwellings (typically two spaces per single-family unit) and prohibits parking on unimproved surfaces in front yards in many districts. Deed restrictions and HOAs commonly cap RV/trailer parking and overnight street parking.
Transportation Code Β§545.302 violations are Class C misdemeanors (fine up to $200). Abilene off-street-parking and front-yard parking violations are Class C municipal citations.
