Ottawa County sets no sign rule; your city or township does. Holland Charter Township allows one temporary yard sign per residential lot, plus one extra from 45 days before an election to 15 days after, each up to 6 square feet.
Sign rules are set by cities and townships under MCL 125.3201, not the county. After Reed v. Town of Gilbert, Holland Charter Township's ordinance is content-neutral: § 13.4(B)(12) exempts 'Temporary Yard Signs on Residential Property' from permits but limits them to one sign per lot of record in agricultural and residential districts, with one additional sign allowed during the window 45 days before an election to 15 days after. Each sign may not exceed 6 square feet and must sit at least 10 feet from any property line and right-of-way. Signs may not be placed in the public right-of-way.
Oversized, excess, or right-of-way signs may be removed by the township; enforcement follows the zoning ordinance's general penalty provisions.
