HOAs retain authority to adopt reasonable rules regarding location and screening but cannot ban solar outright. The law applies statewide and overrides conflicting HOA documents recorded after October 1, 2007. Townhomes and condominiums have more limited protections, and HOAs may impose certain aesthetic restrictions where solar would be visible from the street in some communities.
