California Recreational Drone Operations Follow Federal Rules

Federal law preempts most airspace and operational rules for unmanned aircraft. Recreational flyers must follow 49 USC 44809, including registration, line-of-sight operation, 400-foot altitude ceiling, and CBO safety guidelines. California Civil Code 1708.8 creates a statewide cause of action for invasion of privacy by drone, including aerial photography of private activity.
