Indiana Wildlife Feeding and Deer Baiting Rules

312 IAC 9-3-18.5 prohibits placing salt, mineral, or food to attract deer except under specific conditions, with restrictions tightening during chronic wasting disease responses. Bear and other protected wildlife feeding is generally prohibited under IC 14-22 enforcement. The DNR may issue emergency orders restricting feeding to control disease outbreaks. While cities can prohibit feeding of nuisance wildlife like raccoons or pigeons within municipal limits, state rules on game animals, deer, and protected species preempt local authority.

Class C infraction baseline (up to $500 fine). Hunting violations involving illegal bait may result in Class B misdemeanor charges, license revocation, and confiscation of equipment.
