Indianapolis prohibits intentional feeding of wild deer under Rev. Code Chapter 531 nuisance provisions. Leaving pet food outside to attract wildlife is also prohibited. Bird feeders are generally allowed.
Marion County addresses wildlife feeding through Rev. Code Ch. 531 (Nuisances) and Ch. 531-301 regarding conditions attracting rats and rodents. Intentional feeding of deer, raccoons, and similar wildlife can be declared a public nuisance when it creates safety or nuisance issues. Pet food left outside is prohibited as a rodent attractant under Rev. Code Β§531-402. Indiana DNR regulates wildlife feeding statewide; feeding deer is restricted under 312 IAC 9-3-18.5 especially during CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) response periods. Bird feeders are generally permitted. Feral cat colony management does not fall under this section and may be handled by Indianapolis Animal Care Services. Bears are not native to central Indiana, so bear-specific rules do not apply.
Notice of violation with correction period. Rodent attractant (pet food): fines $25 to $500 under Rev. Code Β§531. Repeat offenses: escalating fines. DNR may cite separately under 312 IAC 9.
