Indianapolis generally allows overnight on-street parking except in designated zones or during declared snow emergencies. No citywide overnight ban exists. Snow routes require removal during declared events under Rev. Code Chapter 441.
Marion County does not impose a citywide ban on overnight on-street parking. Parking is regulated under Rev. Code Ch. 441 (Parking) and Ch. 621 (Traffic Code). During declared snow emergencies, vehicles must be removed from posted Snow Routes within the deadline announced by DPW or risk towing. Some residential areas have residential permit parking (RPP) zones with overnight restrictions. Abandoned vehicle ordinances (Rev. Code Ch. 885) allow tagging and removal of vehicles that remain parked in the same on-street spot for 72+ hours or show indicia of abandonment (expired plates, flat tires, inoperability). Commercial vehicles over certain sizes cannot park overnight on residential streets.
Snow route violation during emergency: $50 ticket plus towing and storage fees $150+. 72-hour abandoned vehicle: tag then tow. RPP zone violation: $30 to $50 ticket.
