Maine Statewide Rule
Maine has no single statewide grading code. Site grading and drainage on private property are governed by the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (25 MRS § 2451 / IRC § R401 site grading) for residential building lots, the Erosion and Sedimentation Control Law (38 MRS § 420-C) on every disturbance, and the Storm Water Management Law (38 MRS § 420-D) for projects over 1 acre of disturbance. Local CEOs administer grading permits under municipal ordinances adopted under 30-A MRS § 4352.
