Oklahoma Statewide Pool Barrier and Enclosure Standards

The Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission (Title 59 O.S. Section 1000.20 et seq.) adopts the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Swimming Pool and Spa Code as minimum statewide standards. Residential pool barriers must be at least 48 inches high, have no openings allowing a 4-inch sphere to pass, and gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches at least 54 inches above grade. Above-ground pools may use the pool wall as part of the barrier when ladders are removable or lockable. Local jurisdictions may adopt stricter rules but cannot fall below these minimums.

Building code violations may result in stop-work orders, denial of certificates of occupancy, and civil penalties imposed by local code officials enforcing the statewide minimum code.
