Oklahoma Public Swimming Pool Safety Requirements

Under OAC 252:410, Oklahoma public and semi-public pools must comply with the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act for anti-entrapment drain covers. State rules require certified lifeguards or posted no-lifeguard warnings with appropriate safety equipment, including ring buoys, shepherd's crooks, and first aid supplies. Water chemistry must be tested and recorded daily, with chlorine and pH within specified ranges. Pools must post depth markers, capacity limits, and rules. The Oklahoma State Department of Health also has authority over public pool sanitation. These rules preempt weaker local standards.

Safety violations can lead to immediate closure, fines up to $10,000 per day, and license revocation. Drain entrapment violations carry federal penalties.
