Wyoming Paid Leave Local Preemption Status

Wyoming statutes do not require private employers to provide paid sick leave, paid family leave, or paid medical leave. The state's general labor statutes under Title 27 occupy the field of employer wage and benefit standards, leaving little room for local mandates. Federal FMLA still requires unpaid, job-protected leave for eligible employees of covered employers. Public-sector employees may receive leave benefits as set by their employing agency or political subdivision. Local governments have not adopted enforceable paid leave ordinances applicable to private employers.

There is no state penalty for failure to provide paid leave because none is required; FMLA violations carry federal enforcement remedies including back pay and reinstatement.
