Canal Winchester provides single-stream curbside recycling through Local Waste Services. Participation is encouraged but not mandatory. Accepted materials follow SWACO guidelines: paper, cardboard, metal cans, plastics #1-#7, glass bottles and jars.
Recycling is collected weekly on the same day as trash using the 65-gallon blue cart. SWACO sets regional recycling standards for central Ohio and Canal Winchester follows its accepted-materials list. Items must be empty, clean, and loose (not bagged). Plastic bags, styrofoam, textiles, batteries, and electronics are contamination and are rejected. Christmas trees are collected separately in January through a seasonal program. There is no penalty for non-participation, but setting trash in the recycling cart can result in the cart being tagged and left unserviced.
Repeated contamination: cart tagged by hauler, materials left behind. Persistent contamination may result in loss of recycling service for the address.
