Simpsonville Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection Rules (2026)

The Greenville County Solid Waste Division, a unit of Public Works, runs the County's disposal infrastructure under Greenville County Code Chapter 16 (Solid Waste). The Division does not provide curbside collection directly to residences or businesses; instead, the County's role is to operate the disposal-and-recycling facilities that the public and private haulers deliver waste to. Yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, brush, limbs, and similar landscape debris) is handled through two County-operated channels.

First, the Twin Chimneys Landfill at 11075 Augusta Rd. in Honea Path is the County's primary disposal site and the location of the County's yard-waste mulching program; yard debris brought to Twin Chimneys is ground into mulch rather than buried. Twin Chimneys is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Note that antifreeze and latex paint are NOT accepted at Twin Chimneys (those go to a convenience center).

Second, the County operates a network of Residential Waste & Recycling Centers ("convenience centers") spread across Greenville County. Convenience centers accept residential household trash, standard curbside-style recyclables (aluminum and steel cans, aluminum aerosol cans, clean aluminum foil and pie plates, cardboard, paper, and plastic bottles and jugs), AND yard debris, plus other materials such as appliances ("white goods"), lead-acid batteries, tires, and used automotive petroleum products and latex paint. Convenience-center hours are Tuesday through Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; the centers are closed Sunday and Monday.

For curbside service, residents in some unincorporated parts of Greenville County are served by Greater Greenville Sanitation Commission (a special-purpose district, 864.232.6721); others are served by private haulers. Inside the boundaries of incorporated municipalities (Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, Travelers Rest, etc.), curbside trash, recycling, and yard-waste collection is provided through the respective city, not the County. The yard-waste rules that apply at the curb — what is accepted, how it must be bundled or bagged, and pickup frequency — therefore vary by city or by hauler, but the County's drop-off and mulching options at Twin Chimneys and at the convenience centers are available county-wide regardless of where you live.

Note that yard debris is NOT accepted in the County's standalone recycling drop-off containers (the ones placed at fire stations, schools, and other public sites): those containers are limited to dry curbside recyclables only, because mixing in organics contaminates the recycling stream. Yard waste must go to a convenience center or to Twin Chimneys.
