Anne Arundel County Forest Conservation Act (FCA) and Article 17 apply. Trees over 30 inches DBH on land 40,000+ sq ft trigger regulation. Critical Area buffer trees heavily protected.
Anne Arundel County Code Article 17 implements the Maryland Forest Conservation Act (Natural Resources Β§5-1601+) for projects disturbing 40,000 sq ft or more. Trees in the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area 100-ft buffer are significantly protected β removal requires Buffer Management Plan approval. Individual residential tree removal on developed lots under 40,000 sq ft typically not permit-required unless trees are on public rights-of-way or in the Critical Area. Street trees managed by Anne Arundel County DPW β residents cannot remove. Landmark or specimen trees (defined 30+ inch DBH) may trigger replacement.
Unauthorized removal: $1,000-$10,000 per tree. Critical Area violation: $1,000/day plus 2:1 replacement. FCA violation: state MDE enforcement.
