Collier County requires a Vegetation Removal Permit to clear protected native vegetation, but exempts single-family lots of one acre or less (except specimen trees). Documented dangerous trees are exempt statewide under FS 163.045.
Collier County LDC Section 3.05.01(B) makes it unlawful to remove or destroy vegetation, or place fill, without a Vegetation Removal (or Vegetation Removal and Fill) Permit. LDC Section 3.05.02 exempts lots one acre or less subdivided for single-family use from that permit for protected vegetation other than a specimen tree, so most home lots do not need one for ordinary landscaping. Larger parcels, Estates and Agricultural land, undeveloped native habitat, and any specimen-tree removal require the permit and county environmental review. Overriding all of this, FS 163.045 lets a homeowner remove a documented dangerous tree with no permit or fee. Mangroves and Big Cypress/coastal overlays add separate state and county protections.
Removing protected vegetation without a required permit is a code violation subject to fines, stop-work orders, and mandatory restoration or replanting ordered by Code Enforcement.
