Brevard County Land Development Code Article XIII mandates tree replacement for permitted removals. Replacement ratios: 1:1 for trees 8-12 inch DBH, 2:1 for 12-24 inch DBH, 3:1 or higher for specimen trees 24+ inches. Replacement trees must be minimum 2-inch caliper at planting and drawn from the Brevard-approved native/Florida-Friendly species list: live oak, slash pine, southern magnolia, sabal palm (FL state tree), gumbo limbo, mahogany (South Florida), red maple, dahoon holly. Non-native and invasive species not permitted as mitigation. Fee-in-lieu (typically $100-$250 per required tree) paid to Brevard Tree Trust Fund when on-site replanting infeasible. Two-year maintenance establishment required.
Failure to replace: $250-$2,000 per required tree plus planting order. Fee-in-lieu non-payment: lien on property. Using non-approved species: replacement required with approved species.
