Boise residents are asked to follow Suez/Veolia Water Idaho's voluntary water-wise schedule of two to three irrigation days per week, watering before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. to reduce evaporation losses.
Boise's drinking water is delivered primarily by the investor-owned Veolia Water Idaho (formerly Suez), regulated by the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. The utility publishes a voluntary water-wise watering schedule based on house number, recommending two to three days per week from May through September. Pressurized irrigation in many Boise subdivisions comes from the New York Canal via gravity-fed laterals, which the city does not meter. During declared drought, the utility can request mandatory restrictions through the IPUC, but no permanent residential watering ordinance is in force.
There are no civil fines for off-schedule watering on city utility customers. Pressurized irrigation districts may shut off service to chronic over-users under their own bylaws.
