Knoxville Utilities Board encourages efficient outdoor watering through voluntary schedules and conservation programs, but it does not impose mandatory citywide lawn watering bans absent regional drought.
KUB supplies water to Knoxville and Knox County and asks customers to water lawns early morning or late evening to reduce evaporation and pressure spikes. Voluntary suggestions include watering no more than twice weekly with one inch total. During declared regional drought events the Tennessee Valley Authority and TDEC can request mandatory restrictions. Smart irrigation rebates are available for WaterSense controllers. KUB does not generally meter outdoor versus indoor use separately, although a deduct meter for irrigation can lower sewer charges for high-use customers.
No civil fines apply to ordinary lawn watering. Only declared drought stages or repeated irrigation system leaks can lead to service warnings, charges for wasted water, or shut-offs.
