Because tiny homes on rural parcels rely on private wells and septic, the county requires owners with an existing home to confirm adequate well and septic capacity with Environmental Health before adding a unit.
Occupying a tiny house on wheels or an RV as a permanent residence on a Siskiyou County parcel can be cited as an unlawful occupancy under county land-use and building provisions. Building a tiny home as an ADU without permits triggers stop-work and retroactive permitting, with Title 24 energy, egress, and fire inspections required before occupancy.
