Exotic pets in Hillsborough County are regulated by FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under FL Β§379 and Administrative Code 68A-6. Class I wildlife (big cats, bears, primates) is prohibited; Class II and III require FWC permits.
FWC Class I prohibitions include lions, tigers, bears, elephants, chimpanzees, and crocodiles over 5 feet. Class II (cougars, wolves, alligators) requires a Captive Wildlife license with 1000 hours experience and caging inspections. Class III (most reptiles, small mammals) requires a no-cost permit. Burmese pythons and other Prohibited Species cannot be owned. Hillsborough County defers to FWC for enforcement.
