Banned species include: all wild or non-domesticated canids (wolves, foxes, coyotes, wolf-dog hybrids), all non-domesticated felids (lions, tigers, servals, bobcats), all non-human primates, all venomous insects and arachnids (except non-aggressive honey bees), all large rodents (capybaras, porcupines, prairie dogs), all even-toed ungulates (deer, goats, sheep, pot-bellied pigs), ferrets, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, all venomous and large constricting snakes, alligators, and crocodilians. Permitted exotic pets include small non-venomous snakes, certain lizards and geckos, small turtles, tropical fish, certain birds (parrots, finches), and hermit crabs. Residents found with prohibited animals face fines and confiscation by Animal Care Centers of NYC.
