Prince William County has no blanket ordinance banning backyard bird or wildlife feeding, but feeding that attracts nuisance animals, creates a trespass (Code Sec. 4-4), or feeds deer/bear runs into Virginia state wildlife rules enforced by the Department of Wildlife Resources.
The county code does not set a general wildlife-feeding prohibition for residents; casual bird feeding is not banned. However, Virginia's Department of Wildlife Resources restricts feeding certain wildlife - notably a statewide bear-feeding regulation and seasonal deer-feeding limits - to reduce disease and public-safety risks. Feeding that attracts stray or wild animals onto a neighbor's land can be addressed under PWC Code Sec. 4-4 (Trespass by animals), and attracting rats or creating unsanitary conditions can be abated under the county's property-maintenance nuisance provisions. Feeding of feral cat colonies is handled through Animal Services' trap-neuter-return policy rather than a feeding ban.
