Ottawa County does not zone height; townships and cities do. Georgetown Township's Chapter 24 schedule limits residential buildings to a maximum of about 35 feet (two-and-one-half stories), measured from established grade to the highest roof point.
Height limits are set by the local unit, not the county (MCL 125.3201). Georgetown Charter Township's Schedule of District Regulations caps buildings in its residential districts (AG, RR, LDR, LMR and similar) at a maximum height of thirty-five (35) feet, and no residential structure may exceed two-and-one-half stories. Height is measured from the established grade to the highest point of the roof for a flat roof, to the deck of mansard roofs, and to the mean level between eaves and ridge for gable, hip and gambrel roofs. Districts and special uses vary — confirm your zone with the township or City of Holland.
An over-height structure is a zoning violation. Georgetown enforces via civil infraction ($100–$500 first offense) and may seek abatement of a nuisance per se (§§30.3–30.4).
