Home cannabis growing is effectively off-limits in Sparks. Nevada law bans home cultivation within 25 miles of a licensed dispensary, and Sparks residents live well inside that radius of multiple retail stores.
Adults 21 and over in Nevada may possess and use cannabis, but home cultivation is tightly restricted. Under NRS 678D.310, a person may not grow cannabis if they live within 25 miles of a licensed adult-use retail store. Because Sparks and the surrounding Reno metro have multiple dispensaries, essentially no Sparks residence qualifies to grow at home. Where growing is lawful, NRS 678D.200 caps it at six plants per person and twelve per household; plants must be kept in a locked, enclosed area and may not be visible from any public place by normal unaided vision. Growing for unlicensed sale is a separate criminal offense.
Illegal cultivation, including growing inside the 25-mile radius or keeping plants visible from a public place, is a misdemeanor: up to a $600 fine for a first violation and up to $1,000 for a second.
