Some Restrictions

Albany's Unified Sustainable Development Ordinance (Chapter 375) restricts where boats, boat trailers, campers, travel trailers, and recreational vehicles may be stored on residential property — they are limited to the rear yard. How long can my motorhome be parked on an Albany street?

A maximum of 72 consecutive hours citywide. Inside Residential Parking Permit zones, non-permit vehicles are also limited to 2 hours between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM weekdays. During declared snow emergencies, alternate-side rules apply by date.

Only in the part of the lot where an accessory garage would be permitted under Chapter 190 Article V of the Town Code. Are commercial trailers allowed at residences in Colonie?

No. Chapter 190 expressly prohibits the parking, garaging or storing of industrial equipment or commercial vehicles, trailers or semi-trailers with a carrying capacity over one ton or a gross weight over three tons in residential areas of the Town.

Who enforces RV storage rules in Colonie?

The Town of Colonie Building and Fire Services Department enforces Chapter 190 zoning provisions. The Police Department enforces on-street parking under Chapter 181. Violations can result in notices of violation, civil penalties under NY Town Law §268, and orders to remove or relocate vehicles.
