Colonie, NY Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

The Town of Colonie is a town of about 86,000 in Albany County governed by the Code of the Town of Colonie hosted on eCode360 (CO0290 / CO0780). Article V (Use Regulations) of Chapter 190 (Zoning and Land Use) addresses accessory use storage in residential districts and requires that trucks with a carrying capacity of three tons or less, motor homes, recreational vehicles, utility vehicles, campers and similar vehicles and boats be stored in an enclosed building or on that part of the lot where an accessory garage would be permitted by code. The parking, garaging or storing of industrial equipment or commercial vehicles, trailers or semi-trailers having a carrying capacity in excess of one ton or a gross weight in excess of three tons is expressly prohibited in residential areas. On-street parking is governed by Chapter 181 (Vehicles and Traffic), Article III (Parking, Standing and Stopping), which requires vehicles to park parallel to the curb in the direction of lawful traffic and within marked lines, and prohibits parking on streets listed in Schedule IX. The Town's zoning authority derives from NY Town Law §261.
