Fort Wayne enforces a vision clearance triangle at corner lot intersections. Fences, shrubs, and any obstruction over 3 feet tall are prohibited within the triangle to maintain driver and pedestrian sight lines.
Fort Wayne Zoning Ordinance establishes a vision clearance triangle at all corner lot street intersections. The triangle extends 25 feet from the intersection of curbs or street edges along each street. Within this triangle, no fence, wall, hedge, sign, or other obstruction over 3 feet in height is permitted. This rule applies regardless of the underlying fence height allowed in the yard. Trees are acceptable within the triangle if the canopy is pruned to 8 feet clearance above grade. Violations can trigger immediate abatement orders for traffic safety, especially on busy intersections along Coliseum Boulevard, Anthony Boulevard, and Jefferson Boulevard.
Prompt abatement order within 10-30 days. Fines $150-$500. Emergency removal possible at owner expense if safety hazard persists.
