Oakley fence setbacks generally allow fences on or immediately adjacent to property lines, with sight triangle setbacks of approximately 25 feet from street corners and 10–15 feet from driveways for any fence over 3 feet. Corner lots and flag lots have additional visibility constraints.
Oakley Municipal Code Title 9 allows boundary fences to be built on or within a few inches of the shared property line, subject to specific sight-visibility setbacks. At corner lots, a triangular sight area at the intersection of two streets — typically measured 25 feet back along each property line from the corner — must be kept clear of fences, walls, landscaping, and other visual obstructions over 2.5 to 3 feet in height. Similar sight-distance triangles apply at driveways (typically 10–15 feet from the driveway edge at the property line) and at alley intersections. Front yard fences, limited to 3.5 feet regardless, are generally permitted to the front property line but must respect sight triangles. Rear and side yard fences up to 6 feet can typically sit on the property line, though pulling them in a few inches avoids disputes over encroachment. Within HOA subdivisions, additional setback standards often apply — particularly prohibiting fences in required front yard landscape easements. Utility easements crossing a parcel may require the utility company's permission to install or may allow the utility to remove fences for access; check title reports for easements. Agricultural-zoned parcels generally follow similar rules, with additional allowance for agricultural perimeter fencing.
