Monmouth County's 53 municipalities each set fence material standards through zoning. Typical residential districts allow wood (cedar, pressure-treated), vinyl/PVC, aluminum, wrought iron, and composite. Chain-link is commonly restricted in front yards across Monmouth (Rumson, Fair Haven, Red Bank, Spring Lake). Barbed wire and razor wire are prohibited in residential zones throughout the county.
