Prince George's County's Zoning Ordinance bans barbed and razor wire, chicken wire, corrugated metal, plywood, sheet metal, and electrified above-ground fences in most zones. Agricultural land and approved security plans have narrow exceptions.
Section 27-6604(c) prohibits barbed or razor wire (unless part of an approved security exemption plan, on agricultural land, or at high-voltage utility substations), and bans fences made of chicken wire, corrugated metal, fabric, fiberboard, garage door panels, plywood, rolled plastic, sheet metal, debris, or waste materials, except where recycled and reprocessed as new-looking building materials. Chain-link is prohibited in Transit-Oriented/Activity Center and most Nonresidential zones. Above-ground electrified fences are prohibited except to enclose livestock in Rural, Agricultural, RE, and RR zones; below-ground pet fences are allowed.
Installing a prohibited material such as barbed wire, corrugated metal, or an electric fence outside the allowed zones is a zoning violation subject to correction or removal.
