The Lewisville Fire Department permits recreational backyard fires in commercially manufactured portable fire pits, chimineas, and permanently installed outdoor fireplaces. Under the adopted International Fire Code, these fires must be located at least 25 feet from any structure or combustible material, flames must not exceed 3 feet in height, and a responsible person must attend the fire at all times with a means of extinguishment readily available (garden hose or fire extinguisher). Only clean, dry firewood or manufactured logs may be burned; burning of trash, construction debris, painted or treated lumber, rubber, or plastics is prohibited. Charcoal grills and gas grills are permitted on patios and decks provided the manufacturer clearance requirements are met. During Denton County burn bans, all outdoor fires including fire pits are prohibited. Lewisville apartment complexes and HOA communities may impose additional restrictions beyond city code.
Fine up to $2,000 per offense. Fire Department may order immediate extinguishment. Violations during burn bans carry enhanced penalties.
