Lewisville bans consumer fireworks within city limits year-round, stricter than TX Occ. Code Ch. 2154. Sparklers and novelty items remain legal.
The City of Lewisville bans consumer fireworks within city limits under its fire code, which is more restrictive than TX Occupations Code Chapter 2154. Texas state law permits 1.4G consumer fireworks (firecrackers, Roman candles, fountains, smoke devices) during designated periods around July 4th (June 24 through July 4), New Year (December 20 through January 1), and other holidays. However, state law explicitly authorizes municipalities to prohibit fireworks within city limits, and Lewisville exercises this authority. The sale, possession with intent to use, and discharge of fireworks are all prohibited inside city boundaries. Sparklers, snakes, smoke balls, and other novelty items classified separately from fireworks under state law are still permitted. Violations are a Class C misdemeanor. The Lewisville Fire Department and Police Department enforce the ban, particularly around July 4th and New Year's Eve. Unincorporated areas of Denton County outside Lewisville city limits may allow fireworks during state-designated periods unless a county burn ban is active. Lewisville hosts a professional Fourth of July fireworks display at Lewisville Lake as a public alternative.
Class C misdemeanor; fine up to 500 dollars per offense. Confiscation of fireworks.
