Lewisville, TX Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Sec. 9-5(b)(1) of the Lewisville Code of Ordinances lists vehicle-mounted sound equipment among the acts the city declares to be excessive or unnecessary noise. Subsection (1)c makes it unlawful for any vehicle to be equipped with, or for any person to use on a vehicle, a bell, siren, compression horn or exhaust whistle; the only carve-out is for law enforcement, fire department and ambulance vehicles performing their duties, which may attach and use those devices. Subsection (1)d separately bars operating or permitting the operation of any loudspeaker or sound-amplifying equipment mounted in a fixed or movable position on or in a vehicle on a street, alley, sidewalk, park, or other public property, if the sound is clearly audible for 50 feet from its source.

The same subsection's other provisions extend the standard to advertising uses: subsection (1)b separately bars mechanical loudspeakers or amplifiers mounted on trucks or other moving vehicles used to advertise a show, sale, or display of merchandise. None of these vehicle provisions carry a numeric decibel limit; the test is whether the sound is 'clearly audible' at the 50-foot distance specified in the Code, which Sec. 9-1 defines as sound that 'can be heard without the assistance of any device.'

There is no exception for the Old Town Entertainment District for the vehicle bell, siren, horn and whistle ban in subsection (1)c; the district's extended hours under Sec. 9-5(b)(1)a apply only to fixed loudspeaker use for attracting customers to a business, not to vehicle-mounted equipment.
