Lewisville requires property owners to clear combustible brush and keep grass under 12 inches. The city can mow noncompliant lots and lien the cost.
Lewisville Code of Ordinances requires property owners to maintain clear vegetation and prevent the accumulation of combustible brush, dead trees, and debris on their property. Grass and weeds must not exceed 12 inches in height in residential areas. Dead trees, fallen limbs, and accumulated brush must be removed promptly to prevent fire hazards. The city Code Compliance division at (972) 219-3450 handles complaints and inspections. When a property owner fails to maintain their lot after written notice, the city is authorized to enter the property, mow and clear the vegetation, and assess the cost to the property owner as a lien on the property per TX Local Government Code Chapter 342. Properties near Lewisville Lake, along creek corridors, and in undeveloped areas adjacent to residential neighborhoods are particular areas of concern for brush accumulation. During Denton County drought conditions and active burn bans, the Fire Marshal may issue additional clearance requirements for properties in high-risk areas. The city conducts seasonal sweeps in spring and summer to identify overgrown lots.
Written notice, then city abatement at owner expense. Lien placed on property for unpaid abatement costs. Fine up to 500 dollars per day for continued noncompliance.
