Showing ordinances that apply to Westside, CA
Westside is an unincorporated community (population 143) in Fresno County, California. Because Westside is not an incorporated city, it does not have its own municipal code. Instead, Fresno County ordinances apply directly to properties here. The backyard fires rules below are the ones that govern your area.
Recreational backyard fires in unincorporated Fresno County are allowed in approved fire pits or outdoor fireplaces but are subject to SJVAPCD no-burn day restrictions. Wood-burning fires are prohibited on no-burn days declared under the Check Before You Burn program, while gas-fueled fire features are exempt.
The Fresno County Fire Protection District allows recreational fires in backyard fire pits and outdoor fireplaces in unincorporated areas provided they follow safety guidelines. Fires must be contained in a UL-listed or permanently constructed fire pit, at least 15 feet from any structure or combustible material. Only clean, dry firewood or manufactured fire logs may be burned. Burning garbage, yard waste, painted wood, or other prohibited materials is illegal under SJVAPCD Rule 4103. On no-burn days declared by the SJVAPCD under the Check Before You Burn program (typically November through February), all wood-burning outdoor fires are prohibited regardless of fire pit type. Gas and propane fire pits are exempt from no-burn day restrictions since they produce minimal particulate matter. Fires must be attended at all times and fully extinguished before leaving. In SRA or VHFHSZ areas in the foothills, CAL FIRE may impose additional restrictions or total fire bans during fire season (typically May through October).
Burning on a no-burn day is subject to SJVAPCD fines of $50 for the first violation and up to $500 for repeat offenses. Unattended fires or fires causing nuisance conditions may result in fire code citations from the Fresno County Fire District. During declared fire emergencies, violations can result in misdemeanor charges.
