LA County retains zoning authority over firearm dealers under Title 22.140.300 of the planning code, and may regulate discharge and storage on unincorporated land through Title 13. Statewide SB-2 sensitive-place rules adopted in 2024 apply countywide, in both unincorporated areas and the 88 cities. Federal Gun-Free School Zones Act and ATF rules layer on top. Contract cities follow the same state rulebook even when LASD provides policing services.
