Suffolk County food truck vending is restricted near schools, parks, and beaches by individual towns. Typical no-vend zones: 500 ft from schools during session and within designated downtown business districts. Beach parking lots require town concession contracts.
Town of Brookhaven Chapter 70 prohibits food truck vending within 500 feet of public schools during session hours and within 200 feet of brick-and-mortar restaurants without consent. Town of Islip prohibits vending in Heckscher State Park approaches and within 500 feet of public beaches without a parks concession contract. Town of Huntington Village, Patchogue Village, and Port Jefferson Village effectively ban transient food trucks in downtown commercial zones through no-vend maps. Special events (Great South Bay Music Festival, Alive After Five in Patchogue) require event-specific vending permits. Parks Department contracts govern vending at Smith Point, Robert Moses, and other county/state beaches.
Vending violations $500-$1,500 per day. Operating in a state park concession area without contract: trespass and up to 90 days jail under NY Parks Law.
