Street fairs and special events have separate temporary vending permit processes through the Mayor's Office. Some Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) have negotiated restricted vending areas. Food trucks may park in legal parking spots on the street (not in metered spots without DOT authorization) but must comply with alternate side parking and all other parking regulations. NYC has explored dedicated food truck zones in commercial districts, but implementation has been limited.
Vending in a restricted area: $50–$250 per violation. Obstructing pedestrian traffic: $100+. Parking violations: standard DOT penalties. Repeat zone violations: permit suspension or revocation. NYPD, DOHMH, and DOT all conduct enforcement.
