Utica, NY Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Oneida County does not designate countywide food truck vending zones; location rules are set by each municipality. The City of Utica restricts street vending to approved locations with permits issued by the City Clerk; private commercial property vending is generally allowed with owner permission and applicable zoning compliance (typically limited to commercial zoning districts). The City of Rome applies similar rules. Rural towns (Marcy, Western, Trenton, Floyd) typically allow food trucks on private commercial property with landowner permission and a town peddler permit; right-of-way vending is usually prohibited except during permitted special events. Popular vending locations include brewery taprooms, farmers' markets, Utica's Boilermaker and Munson-Williams-Proctor events, and county parks (which require Oneida County Parks vendor agreements). Pre-2023 mobile food unit franchise restrictions in some towns have been loosened, but minimum distance from brick-and-mortar restaurants (typically 200-500 feet) may still apply in some city business districts.
