Hinds County follows the Mississippi Cottage Food Operation Law (MS Code Β§75-29-901 et seq., expanded 2020/2022). The sales cap is $35,000 per calendar year. Excluded: meat, dairy, canned low-acid vegetables, and anything requiring refrigeration. Products must be labeled with producer name and address, ingredients, allergens, net weight, and the statement 'Made in a cottage food operation that is not subject to Mississippi's food safety regulations.' No license, inspection, or registration with MSDH is required. Direct-to-consumer sales only: farmers markets (including Jackson's Mississippi Farmers Market), roadside stands, home delivery, and online with in-state delivery. Hinds County home occupation zoning must also be satisfied.
Exceeding $35,000 cap: must move to commercial kitchen. Non-permitted products: MSDH cease-and-desist. Labeling violations: warning then fines. Selling across state lines prohibited.
