A zoning permit is required for every home occupation in unincorporated Charleston County. The operator must be a full-time resident, and only one nonresident employee is allowed on site.
ZLDR Β§6.5.11.A states that zoning permits are required for all home occupations. The operator must be a full-time resident of the dwelling, and only one full-time or one part-time nonresident employee may work at the residence. Customers may visit only between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., averaging no more than one per hour, and no more than four deliveries or pick-ups are allowed in that window. Goods sold must be produced on the premises or make up 25 percent or less of gross receipts. The county Zoning & Planning fee schedule sets a home occupation permit fee.
Operating without the required zoning permit, or violating the performance standards, is enforced by the Zoning & Planning Department under ZLDR Chapter 11.
