Grove City requires a Zoning Certificate for most home occupations under Codified Ordinance Title 11. No external evidence of the business (signs, displays, traffic) is permitted, and the business must be conducted entirely within the dwelling by a resident.
Grove City Zoning Code classifies home occupations as accessory uses in all residential districts. Standards include: operated only by residents of the dwelling, no more than one non-resident employee, no outdoor storage of equipment or materials, no exterior alteration changing the residential character, signage limited to one non-illuminated nameplate not exceeding 2 square feet, and total area used not exceeding 25 percent of the dwelling floor area. Prohibited home occupations include auto repair, kennels, medical clinics, and any use generating noise, odor, dust, or vibration detectable at property lines. Applicants submit a Zoning Certificate application to the Grove City Development Department with a site plan and business description. Approval is administrative if standards are met.
Operating without a Zoning Certificate: notice of violation, fines starting at 100 dollars per day under Title 11. Continued violation may result in Mayor's Court citations and misdemeanor penalties up to 250 dollars and 30 days for each day of violation.
