Chapter 102 (Zoning) of the Stafford Code allows home occupations in residential districts, subject to limits that protect neighborhood character. The use must be conducted entirely within the dwelling, occupy a minor portion of the floor area, employ only resident family members, and produce no external evidence of nonresidential activity. Outdoor storage, commercial vehicles, and customer-generated traffic that disturbs neighbors are restricted. Permitted uses must comply with all building, fire, and licensing requirements and may require approval through Planning and Zoning before commencing.
Operating a home occupation that exceeds incidental use, employs nonresidents, generates excessive traffic, or visibly alters the residential character of the dwelling.
