Massachusetts has no statewide artificial turf ban but has growing PFAS (forever chemicals) concerns. Wayland, Concord, and Sharon adopted similar public-property bans. Quincy and Weymouth have no artificial turf bans. Residential installations generally do not require a permit if no grading change. Stormwater bylaws in each town require permeable base and drainage β Quincy's Stormwater Management Bylaw (Ch. 17A) and Brookline's Stormwater Bylaw apply to disturbances over 5,000 sq ft. MassDEP has issued PFAS guidance; new MCL of 20 parts per trillion for 6 PFAS in drinking water affects turf infill selection. No state HOA preemption protecting turf installation.
