Prince William County limits grass and weeds to 12 inches on residential and commercial lots of two acres or less. Taller growth violates the county's tall grass and weed ordinance. Agriculturally zoned parcels are exempt.
On residential and commercial properties of two acres or less, grass and weeds over 12 inches tall are prohibited. On residential parcels larger than two acres, weeds over 12 inches are barred within 150 feet of state-maintained roads or within 200 feet of another property's dwelling. Enforcement runs through Neighborhood Services under Virginia Code 15.2-901, which authorizes localities to require cutting and to recover the cost as a real-estate-tax-parity lien. Agriculturally zoned parcels are exempt from the height rule.
A cited owner has 14 days after official notice to comply; if not, the county's contractor mows and the full cost plus administrative fees are charged to the owner and become a tax lien on the property.
