Marion County's Nuisance Vegetation ordinance (MCC Chapter 8.15, Ord. 1193) governs unincorporated land inside the Salem-Keizer urban growth boundary. It defines "nuisance vegetation" to include weeds and grasses more than 10 inches in height, dead or dying vegetation, poison oak, hazardous thickets, and other rank vegetation that is a health, fire or traffic hazard. Agricultural crops and ornamental landscaping grasses that are not a fire or traffic hazard are excluded. Farther out in the rural county, the Weed Control District (Chapter 8.20) handles noxious weeds instead. Inside Salem or Keizer, the city's own property-maintenance code applies, so confirm whether your parcel is city or county.
