The city's Neighborhood Services Division handles enforcement and residents can report overgrown properties through the GoRequest mobile app or by calling (815) 724-4000. If property owners do not comply after notice, the city may abate the nuisance and bill the property owner for the cost. Fines of $150 or more may be imposed for yard waste violations. The Illinois Noxious Weed Act (505 ILCS 100) additionally requires destruction of specified noxious weeds.
