The county's weed ordinance (Code 13-7-401) makes it unlawful to allow or maintain a growth of grass, weeds, or other rank vegetation exceeding 8 inches in height on a lot. Enforcement is complaint-driven: Code Enforcement issues a notice, and if the owner does not cut the vegetation down to a height of 3 inches or less, the county may abate the nuisance by mowing and charge the cost back to the owner. The provision exempts agricultural land, designated landscape buffers, natural-habitat areas, and stormwater-management areas. There is currently no exception for low-impact ('managed natural') landscaping, though the county has studied adding one.
Complaint triggers a code-enforcement citation and fine; if grass is not cut to 3 inches or less, the county mows and bills the owner for abatement costs.
