Lima caps grass and weeds at 8 inches. The owner or occupant must keep the premises and exterior property free from grass and/or weeds in excess of eight inches, or the City can cut and bill them.
Lima Property Maintenance Code Section 1806.09(A) requires owners and occupants to keep every premises and exterior property free from grass and/or weeds over eight inches tall. Overgrowth is enforced by the Code Official, who serves a written notice to cut within five days (Section 1806.10). If the owner fails to comply, the City cuts the growth and recovers all direct cutting costs, notice costs, and an administrative fee. Unpaid charges can be certified to the Allen County Auditor as a special assessment on the property tax duplicate.
Code Official serves 5-day notice to cut; on failure the City abates and bills all costs plus an administrative fee, collectible as a tax-duplicate special assessment.
