McKinney limits grass and weeds to 12 inches maximum on improved lots under Chapter 42 of City Code. Code Services issues 10-day notice before city abatement and lien.
The 12-inch trigger applies to front, side, and rear yards of residential and commercial properties. Vacant improved lots must also comply. Notice is posted on site and mailed. If not cured in 10 days, city contractors mow and a lien attaches for actual cost plus 100 dollar administrative fee. Repeat offenders within same season may be abated without further notice under blanket authorization.
Civil penalty up to 500 dollars per day plus abatement costs and lien. Habitual violators may face Municipal Court.
